A pre-paid funeral allows you to lock in today’s prices by paying upfront, helping protect your family from future cost increases and unexpected expenses. In contrast, funeral insurance involves ongoing payments that can add up over time and may ultimately cost more in the long run. With Australian Funeral Plan, you can choose a clear, upfront approach that offers certainty, value, and peace of mind.
If you have moved interstate or are planning on moving away from your current area, please reach out to Australian Funeral Plan. We work with a wide network of funeral directors and may be able to transfer your policy to another funeral director at your new location without incurring any additional fees.
We recommend reviewing your plan every few years or whenever there are significant changes in your circumstances, such as moving, acquiring new assets, or a change in family dynamics.

A funeral service is held before the cremation or burial and includes the presence of the coffin. A memorial service takes place after the cremation or burial and can be held at a variety of venues, with or without the ashes present.
Flowers can add beauty and warmth to a service, but they are not mandatory. You can also include personal mementos, photos, or letters to honour your life in a meaningful way.
Cremation involves reducing the body to ashes, which can be kept, scattered, or buried. Burial involves placing the body in a coffin or casket and interring it within a cemetery or other designated site.
A direct cremation is a simple, unattended cremation with no service. It’s an affordable option that allows families to hold a personalised memorial service at a later time.
This is entirely up to you. Some families choose to include the ashes as a central element of the service, while others opt for a framed photograph or another meaningful item.
Yes, direct cremation can be included as part of a pre-paid plan, giving you peace of mind that your wishes will be fulfilled.
If a passing occurs at a nursing home, the registered nurse (RN) or on-site medical staff should be notified first. They will confirm the passing and complete the required Life Extinct documentation.
Once this has been done, your family can contact your chosen funeral director to begin arrangements, including bringing you into care and planning the service.
If the passing occurs at home, a doctor or appropriate medical professional will need to attend to confirm the passing and complete the necessary documentation. After this has been issued, your family can then contact the funeral director.
If the passing occurs in hospital, hospital staff will manage immediate care. If the hospital has a mortuary, you will be transferred there and cared for until arrangements are made. If a mortuary is not available, the hospital will contact the funeral director directly to arrange an immediate transfer into care. Once the required medical paperwork is completed, your family will then liaise with the funeral director to proceed with arrangements.
If you pass away while travelling, your family or travel companions should contact your funeral director immediately so arrangements can begin without delay.
From there, the funeral director will coordinate the necessary steps, including working with local funeral homes, arranging the safe transfer, and ensuring all required documentation and procedures are completed properly. This helps ensure everything is managed smoothly, no matter where the death occurs.
Yes, but your funeral director needs to agree to the changes. Please remember if you do change your original agreement, there may be additional costs.
Choose someone you trust to handle your estate. This could be a family member, friend, or solicitor. Ensure they are organised, capable, and willing to take on the responsibility.
